Kicker’s Sports Bar and Grill

Daryl Makk, Mitch Macfarlane and Tarah Buchanan rolled up to Kicker’s Sports Bar on a Saturday afternoon in February to an empty parking lot and a decrepid hotel sign with their books in hand and hope in their hearts. Walking in, Kickers is a saloon-like type of establishment; clean, spacious and lightly staffed.

The comics set up the room with the helpful staff, did a sound check and even got a chance to check out a lunar eclipse before the show began. Patrons slowly trickled in and were greeted at the front, found their seats and boisterously waited for the fun to begin.

The lights dimmed, the music shut off and the show began to a mighty audience of 12 people. Tarah began by remarking that this was the biggest show of her life due to the chanting and laughter coming from the modest crew. They were bright, silly and ready to laugh; the perfect comedy audience.

Mitch Macfarlane took the stage shortly after and did equally as well, closing off with a silly outro about his opinions on the royal family. The crowd loved it.

Once Daryl took the stage, all bets were off. The crowd was rowdy and liquored and thirsty for laughs. Daryl absolutely killed. The mighty crew of 12 sounded like 120 as they laughed along with Daryl as he told stories, remarked on the political climate and waxed hilarious.

Kickers Bar was a small show, but a great show and taught us all that it’s not always about the size of the audience, but the size of the laugh in the audience.
